My name is Belinda Bird and I am a Naturopath, also qualified in Nutritional Medicine and Western Herbal Medicine, practising in Melbourne’s outer west. My journey into natural health began when I was looking for answers around the health of my family and I. This drive lead to me developing a true passion for natural medicine and gave me a clear picture of what holistic, individualised care should look like. Through this understanding I have been able to build a successful practise.
I strongly believe that many of our illnesses today come about through various nutrient deficiencies, too much toxicity and the exposure to environmental and psychological stressors. Many people are affected by all of these factors but don’t recognise the link between them and their illness, often resulting in the illness becoming chronic in nature.
Providing individualised and holistic care is key to my practise, as it helps you to be relieved of these factors.
I recognise that every body is different and treat according to your own presenting complaints, not just the standard way of treating a condition. Viewing the body as a whole and not separate parts is also important. For example I do not believe you can treat any skin condition without looking under the skin at the health of internal organs and systems. Viewing the body in a holistic manner and establishing the root cause is the only way to truly resolve any illness.
Through thorough consultation I will establish the cause of your illness and will work with you to formulate a treatment plan specific to your own needs. I use herbal and nutritional supplements to help restore any deficiencies, remove toxicity and to return balance in the body. I will provide a detailed plan that contains dietary and lifestyle advice that will work for you. Where possible I like to use food as medicine as I believe it’s the most natural and cost effective way to support the body.
I was awarded The Deans Award and an Outstanding Student Award for my studies in Nutritional Medicine. My background as a chef combined with this nutritional knowledge gives me the experience to educate patients about healthy food and cooking. Inspiring people to improve their health through delicious, nutrient dense food which they have prepared themselves is an important part of my services. Food has the power to be the greatest form of medicine or a slow form of poison, helping my patients to use food as medicine is integral part of my practice.
I am fully insured and registered with ANTA (Australian Natural Therapists Association), who are Australia’s largest association of industry recognised complementary medicine and natural therapy practitioners. Health fund rebates are available for my consults, depending on your level of cover. I have a thirst for knowledge and am regularly attending seminars, webinars and conferences to ensure I am applying the most up to date scientific research and industry standards to my practise.
I look forward to being part of your wellness journey.
